Arthur Birger Bell, beloved husband, father and grandfather, 79, of North East, MD, died suddenly Thursday, June 5, 2008. Born in Madison, WI, on April 16, 1929, his family returned to Bergen, Norway shortly after his birth. He grew up in Norway during WWII, where he graduated from high school. He worked his way to America on a boat after the war. Joining the US Air Force, he served as a translator in Germany. Arthur married Adele Christine Fabi in 1952 and they had 5 children. He attended Pratt Institute of Architecture and the University of Maryland. He took college classes well into his 70's. Last year he became a Master Gardener. Arthur loved walking and traveled some of the Appalachian Trail. He was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church for many years. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Adele; his children: Christine Brown of Duluth, MN; Lori Bell of North East, MD; Joyce Simonson of Duluth, MN; Arthur S. Bell of North East, MD; and Jennifer Deel of Duluth, MN; a sister: Gerd Rorvik of Thomwood, NY; a half-brother: Anker Bell of Chapel Hill, NC; 16 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, all who loved his gentle nature. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Borghild Bell; his sister: Ruth Gundersen and 2 grandchildren: Steven and Austin Bell. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 9, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, Pleasant Valley Road, Newark, DE, with visitation for family and friends beginning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Bay View Cemetery, North East, MD.
