Anthony P. "Tony" Gaskewicz, 83 of North East, MD, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2008. Born in Wilmington, DE, on December 5, 1924, he was a resident of North East for over 40 years. He was a proud member of the 82nd AirBorne and served as an interpreter in the European Campaign during WWII. He was a member of the Military Order of the Cootie of the US; the Chesapeake City V.F.W. Post # 7687, where he was a past commander; the North East V.F.W. Post # 6027 and the Perryville American Legion Post #135. He is survived by: his brother Alfred Gaskewicz; sister Genevieve Lynam and her husband Willard; sister-in-law Eckie Abrams and her husband Mike; brother-in-law John Crothers and his wife Robbie; his grandsons: Jason, Jesse and Joe Saienni; numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends. Mr. Gaskewicz was preceded in death by his wife, Fay Crothers Gaskewicz, his daughters: Joyce Matlack and Jeannie Saienni; and two brothers: Henry Olszeski and Ed Gesell. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, where family and friends may visit Friday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Father Joseph Piekarski will officiate. Interment with full military honors will be Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 11:00 AM in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North East Branch of the Cecil County Library, in care of the funeral home.
