Anne Theresa Stevens DeMott

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anne Terese Stevens DeMott, who left us peacefully on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at the age of 80.

Anne was born on October 2, 1944, in Lowell, MA, to the late James and Monica Stevens. She was raised in Philadelphia, PA, where she met and married the love of her life, Evard DeMott.

Anne and Evard moved to Rising Sun, MD, where they raised their three children in a warm and happy home filled with love, books, and many dogs and cats. Anne and Evard loved the outdoors, taking their family on many hikes in the woods, along the river, and in the mountains. They traveled yearly to Maine, where they especially enjoyed the rocky coast and lighthouse at Pemaquid Point.

Anne was a gifted educator, artist, and gardener. She was a licensed Master Gardener through the University of Maryland and completed rigorous horticulture certification from Longwood Gardens. She was a clay artist, known for her beautiful custom tiles. For many years, the Cecil County Commissioners hired Anne to create custom clay plaques for the "Most Beautiful People" awards. She volunteered with the National Audubon Society as part of the migratory hawk migration counts on the Chesapeake Bay. She designed gardens around the community, namely at Plumpton Park Zoo. Dedicated to education, she was always teaching children, especially her five beloved grandchildren. She could often be found outside in her gardens with a dog by her side.

Anne is survived by her three children: Suzanne and her husband John Gaadt; Evard and his wife Lisa DeMott; and Liz and her husband Stephen Yates. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Brooke and her husband Loagan Goss, Guilia Gaadt, Ian Gaadt, Evard DeMott, and Owen Yates. She also leaves behind her beloved sister-in-law, Sharon Spickler, her life-long friend, Mary Brignola, and many nieces and nephews. Anne was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband, Evard, and a brother, James Stevens.

Anne is no longer with us, but we are comforted by the fact that she is at peace and at long last with her Evard again. We will forever cherish the memories created and the love that she showered upon us.

Visitation for Anne will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 150 South Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD, at 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Family and friends are warmly invited to gather and celebrate Anne’s life, share memories, and reflect on her enduring legacy.
