Anna Louisa Lockard, of North East, MD, a beloved matriarch and lifelong resident of Cecil County, MD, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at the age of 97. Born on September 26, 1928, in Elkton, MD, Anna lived a life rich in love, community service, and cherished family connections.
A dedicated wife and mother, Anna worked alongside her husband, Auburn at Lockard's Sub Shop in North East, where she served many local patrons with warmth and care. She also contributed her talents at the deli counter of J.J. Newberry's, where her friendly demeanor and work ethic were well known.
Anna was a devoted lifetime member of Wesley Church of Elkton, serving on the Board of Trustees and taking great pride in decorating the Wesley Chapel for Christmas and caring for the church cemetery. Her love for her community was evident in all she did, and she will be remembered for her infectious spirit and dedication to those around her.
A talented cook, Anna was especially known for her delicious apple dumplings, which she lovingly prepared for the church's Fall Fest. She had a passion for music, enjoyed crocheting, and was a devoted fan of Orioles baseball.
Anna leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her family. She is survived by her son, William B. Lockard, Sr. of Rising Sun, MD; her daughter, Mary A. Lockard-Polis (William) of Landenberg, PA; her grandchildren, Jessica Lockard of North East, MD, Lauren Lockard-Reil (Kenneth, Jr.) of Colora, MD, William B. Lockard, Jr. (Brenna) of Strasburg, PA, Alexis Polis and Katherine Polis, both of Landenberg, PA; her great-grandson, Gavin Reil of Colora, MD; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Auburn B. Lockard; her parents, Glenn Hampton Arrants, Sr. and Blanche (Stanley) Arrants; brothers, Harold Stanley, Glenn H. Arrants, Jr., Charles W. Arrants; and sister, Mary I. Jones.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and honor of Anna's life. Visitation will be held at Wesley Chapel, 2015 Old Elk Neck Road, Elkton, MD on Saturday,December 20, 2025, at 1:00 pm, followed by a memorial service celebrating her life at 2:00 pm.
Interment will follow services in North East Methodist Cemetery, North East, MD.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Anna's memory may be made to Wesley Church, in care of Crouch Funeral Home, 127 S. Main Street, North East, MD 21901.
Anna Louisa Lockard's spirit will forever shine in the hearts of her family and friends, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. In honoring her memory, let us carry forward her legacy of kindness, community, and unwavering love.
