Amos A. Lockard, 98 of North East, MD, died Friday, January 3, 2014 in the Calvert Manor Healthcare Center, Rising Sun, MD.

Born in Elk Neck, MD on January 13, 1915, he was the son of the late William J. and the late Mary (Pierce) Lockard.

He was a World War II Army Veteran and had served in Italy.

Amos was a crane operator, employed by Aberdeen Proving Ground for over 35 years before his retirement. He also was a crane operator for Sun Ship in Chester, PA many years ago.

Mr. Lockard, an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, flowers, feeding the squirrels, and teasing people.

He is survived by one daughter: Patricia “Pat” Deamond and husband Terry of North East, MD.

Predeceased by his wife, Martha R. Lockard; brothers: Charles, William R, Andrew, Albert, and George Lockard; sister: Marion Lockard; and nephew: Thomas A. Lockard.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD. There will be a viewing on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Interment will follow, with full military honors, in North East Methodist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to North East Volunteer Fire Co., in care of the funeral home.
