Allen Joel “Tobe” Hitchens, Jr., 61, of Chesapeake City, MD, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Union Hospital in Elkton, MD.
Born in Wilmington, DE, on September 10, 1964, he was the son of the late Allen J. Hitchens, Sr. and Judith (Quinton) Hitchens.
Tobe was a skilled union journeyman carpenter and a man of many interests and talents. He had a lifelong love of motorcycles. He enjoyed traveling worldwide.
Tobe played bass in several bands over the years. He had a deep apperciation for world history. He was known for his impressive memory, love of trivia, clever jokes, and collection of flat caps. He was also a devoted admirer and rescuer of Australian Cattle Dogs, a wonderful journey that began with Baldrick about 30 years ago.
Tobe loved humor. He could quote entire sketches from shows like Monty Python, Blackadder, and Red Dwarf from memory, with silly voices, if required. Above all else, Tobe cherished his family and friendships. He made friends everywhere he went, never short of something to say, and ever curious to learn about other people’s lives. He was a loyal husband, a devoted father and son, and a good friend to many.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Kristine M. Hitchens; his beloved son, Finn A. Hitchens, both of Chesapeake City, MD; and his half brother, Dennis Hitchens. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD., with funeral services commencing at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow services in Bethel Cemetery, Chesapeake City, MD.
