Alice (Stoops) Karppinen

Alice (Stoops) Karppinen, 96 of Waynesboro, PA, formerly of Rising Sun, MD passed away January 16, 2025 at Legacy Mt. Hood Hospital in Gresham, Oregon.

Born in Newark, DE on March 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late George Stoops and Clara Everett.  She was the wife of Keijo Karppinen for 70 years, who passed away on December 8, 2021.

For 50 years, Alice and her husband Keijo resided in Rising Sun, MD. In 2005, Keijo and Alice moved to Quincy Village in Waynesboro, PA, where they became members of the Presbyterian Church of Waynesboro and Waynesboro Lions Club.

Alice graduated from Elkton HS in 1945 and was active with her graduating class for almost 70 years, helping organize and host alumni dinners.  She also held many jobs that she enjoyed working at Aberdeen Proving Ground and later at Bay View Elementary School as a first-grade teacher's aide. After that, Alice worked at WASA/WHDG in Havre De Grace, and finally, she was a receptionist at Pure Indulgence hair salon in Perryville.

Alice was an active member of West Nottingham Presbyterian Church for 50 years and an active member of the NE Lions as well.

Alice will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, contagious laugh, and love of people. She spent the last 3 years of her life with her daughter and son-in-law in Estacada, Oregon, where she went to live after her husband passed away.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Goad-Williams (Patrick), and grandson, Buddy G. Goad, III, and brother, Clifton Stoops.

In addition to her husband and parents, Alice was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Karen Karppinen, son-in-law, Buddy G. Goad, Jr., and sister, Louise Conway.

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at 10:00 am at North East Methodist Cemetery, 101 Cemetery Road, North East, MD. There will be a celebration of life held after the service from 11am-2pm at West Nottingham Presbyterian Church,1195 Firetower Road, Colora, MD 21921. All are welcome to attend.
