Alice Mae Buchanan, 91, of Elkton, MD, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2022.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware on July 15, 1931, she was the daughter of the late James T. McClelland, Sr. and Emily E. (Greenwell) McClelland.
Her closest friends and family referred to her as AliMae and fondly remember her passion for cooking and entertaining, especially when it involved picking crabs. She was a fierce card game competitor for long-time friend, Nanci Purnell, and continued this competitive nature through playful bets on her favorite football teams with family members. Alice will be remembered by many for her selflessness, repetitive storytelling, her witty catchphrases, such as “and this too shall pass,” all while not forgetting the pure love she expressed for those near and dear to her.
Alice was the wife of the late Robert J. Buchanan, Sr. who passed away in December 1992; although was blessed to enjoy more than 25 wonderful years with her surviving partner, C. Lawrence Henderson. Additional survivors include her sisters, Jane Cantera of Elkton, MD, Eileen Harvey of Lancaster, PA, son, Robert Buchanan Jr. (Rose) of Wesley Chapel, FL, son, Scot Buchanan (Patricia) of Rising Sun, MD, and daughter, Emily Smith (Michael) of Colora,
MD. Alice could also talk for hours about her beloved grandchildren: Joshua, Lindsay, Matthew, and Sam, while also thinking about her great-grandchildren: Michael, Olivia, and Jackson.
Private funeral services and interment will be conducted by Crouch Funeral Home in North East, MD.
