Alfred Merton Owens

Alfred Merton Owens, 81, of North East, MD, died Wednesday, February 2, 2005 in the Union Hospital Of Cecil County, Elkton, MD.Born in Zion, MD, on January 26, 1924, he was the son of the late Avery and Ethel McKinney Owens. Mr. Owens was a lifelong resident of Cecil County and retired as a mechanic from Zion Transportation after 40 years of service. He also worked for Fosters Automotive in North East, MD. He served for the U.S. Army during WWII.He was a lifetime member of Zion United Methodist Church and he loved to travel out west. He enjoyed horses, but especially loved his family; his grandkids were his life. He spent his spare time enjoying the challenge of repairing furniture, and reviving small engines and motors.Survived by his wife of 60 years, Kathleen G. Owens, Calvert, MD;Children, Michael Owens, Conowingo, MD, Sharon Alexander, North East, MD, and Charlotte Graustein, West Grove, PA; Brother, Richard Owens, Wilmington, DE; Grandchildren, Shane & Christopher Miller, Jinelle and Jacqueline Alexander, Darrell and Jared Owens, and Amy Jones; and 4 Great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 5, 2005 at 11:00 AM at Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD.Friends may call Friday, February 4, 2005 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Rev. Hal E. Owens of Zion United Methodist Church will officiate. Interment with full military honors will follow services in Friends Cemetery, Calvert, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Zion United Methodist Church c/o Crouch Funeral Home.
