John "Jack" O'Neill, 63 It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of John "Jack" O'Neill in the early morning hours of February 14th. Jack, son of Mary Elizabeth and the late Frances J. O'Neill, was a native of New Castle, Delaware. He grew up as an Eagle Scout and continually served as an exemplary global citizen with his dedication to family and community. O'Neill has been with the University of Delaware for 39 years as a professor in the College of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Science. During his tenure he was the first Director of the University's Recreation and Fitness Management Program, the Co-Founder of Ice Skating Science Development Center, an active member of Delaware Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and an esteemed counselor on the Delaware Title IX Advisory Board. Jack is survived lovingly by his wife of 41 years, Eileen Lewis O'Neill and three daughters and son-in-law, Colleen Van Dyke and her husband Andrew, the Erin O'Neill and Kathleen O'Neill. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Drew, Delaney and Emma, as well as five brothers & sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00 PM on Monday, February 18, 2008 at St. Thomas More Oratory, 45 Lovett Ave., Newark, DE 19711, where family and friends may call from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Monsignor Szupper will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorial donations toward a scholarship being created in his name.
