Genevieve P. Patchell, 89 of Charlestown, MD, died Tuesday, August 26, 2008 in the Union Hospital of Cecil County, Elkton, MD. A lifelong resident of Cecil County, She was born in North East, MD, on July 4, 1919, the daughter of the late Marshall and the late Martha Meekins Purner. She was the wife of the late James Ross Patchell who died June 22, 1985. Mrs. Patchell was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Charlestown, MD and a Charter Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Charlestown Volunteer Fire Dept. She enjoyed big band music, cooking, vacationing at Virginia Beach, playing cards, dancing on roller skates and her hats. She loved music singing and shopping and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include her children: Ruth "Susie" Patchell Dean and her husband Mark of North East, MD, James R. Patchell, Jr. of Elkton, MD, Marshall L. Patchell, Sr. and his wife Rebecca of North East, MD, Charles A. Patchell of Elkton, MD, Harry E. Patchell of Charlestown, MD, Richard H. Patchell and his wife Virginia of North East, MD, and John R. Patchell and his companion Patricia Brittingham of New Castle, DE; her siblings: Ruth Simpson of North East, MD, Marshall Lloyd Purner of North East, MD, Delores Coulter of Rising Sun, MD; 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Allen W. Purner, Clinton Jefferson Purner and a sister, Ellen P. Cantler. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 12:00 Noon at St. John's United Methodist Church, 240 Market Street, Charlestown, MD, with visitation for family and friends starting at 10:00 AM. Rev. Mary Browne will officiate. Interment will follow in Charlestown Cemetery, Charlestown, MD. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be sent to St. John's United Methodist Church, Att: Memorial Contributions, P.O. Box 82, Charlestown, MD 21914.
