Betty S. Blankenship, 86 of Oxford, PA, formerly of Elkton, MD died Friday, June 13, 2008 in the Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. Born in North East, MD, on March 27, 1922, she was the daughter of the late C. Carter and the late Edna Miller Simpers. She was a 3rd Grade Teacher at Oakington Elementary School in Havre De Grace, MD for many years retiring in 1979 and she also taught at North East Elementary School and Hart's School in Elk Neck, MD. Mrs. Blankenship was a member of North East United Methodist Church, Maryland Retired Teacher Association, 5th District Auxiliary of Union Hospital, Ware Presbyterian Village Auxiliary, where she was a volunteer. She also volunteered at the Cecil County Department of Social Services in the Help Center. She was a past president of the Cecil County Retired Teachers Association as well as a past member of the Board of Directors of the Maryland Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include her son Chuck Blankenship and his wife Terri of Elkton, MD and her daughter Lynn McAllister and her husband Hugh of Oxford, PA. Her sister Nancy S. Reynolds of Elkton, MD, her grandchildren Adam, Chase, Kristen McAllister and Justin Blankenship and her great-granddaughter Kasey Mae Blankenship. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Blankenship Sr., her son Robert H. Blankenship and her sister Mildred S. Tull. Funeral service will be Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 11:00 AM at North East United Methodist Church, 308 South Main Street, North East, MD where family and friends may call between 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will follow in North East Methodist Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ware Presbyterian Village Auxiliary in care of Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD 21901.
