I met Sylvia in 2008 when we started attending Shelemiah UMC. She won us over with her infectious smile and loving heart. Missing her and thinking of her now reminds me of this excerpt from a poem, "The Dash" by Linda Ellis.

I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone from beginning......to the end.

He noted that first came the date of her birth and spoke of the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.

For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth, and now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not how much we own, the cars....the house....the cash. What matters most is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.

I'm imagining Sylvia crossing the threshold of heaven and God "high fiving" her with "Well done my child.....WHAT A DASH!!!! Praying for peace and comfort for all of you.

Sylvia was a wonderful lady, a good neighbor and a good friend to my mom, Doris Shirk. Doris lived in the house in back of the Covered Bridge across the road from Sylvia's farm. Doris encouraged Sylvia to go to Shelemiah United Methodist Church where these two ladies were a force. I know that she and my mom have reunited since my Mom passed a year before on March 12, 2016.
My deepest sympathy to her family.

Please accept my deepest sympathies on the loss of Sylvia. She was a wonderful lady. I have fond memories of her and Dutch. She attended my church and he played cards with my Dad. She always had a smile on her face and kind words to say. She will be greatly missed.

Sylvia was a lovely lady. She always had a pleasant greeting for everyone and treated us all the same. She was always at the Eastern Star meetings and activities helping out any way she could. My mother who has passed thought so much of her and I did, too. She will be greatly missed.
