Shirley Jane Murphy, 83 of Elkton, MD, died Sunday, November 18, 2018 at home with her loving granddaughter by her side, after a long battle with Valvular Heart Disease.
Born in Perryville, MD, on January 26, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Edna (Hammond) Shockley.
Before retiring in April of 2001, Shirley was a Supply Technician with the Directorate of Logistics Supply and Service Division at Aberdeen Proving Ground for more than 25 years.
Shirley was an avid reader faithfully sharing her many books with her family, enjoyed crossword puzzles and her weekly check- in’s with her sister, Doris as well as cryptograms, gardening and her cat, Black Cat. Most of all she was a devoted, selfless, caring and loving mother/grandmother to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren of which she adored.
Shirley is survived by three daughters: Christine A. Main, Jane A. Webb and Donna L. Murphy all of Elkton, MD, and one son: Kevin R. Murphy also of Elkton, MD; two sisters: Doris King of North East, MD and Rosalie Lewis of AL; six grandchildren: Charles, Timothy, Danny, Brittney, Zachary, Taylor; and five great grandchildren: Teagan, Adalyn, Gavin, Carson and Owen.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years Donald Ross Murphy who died in 2010.
Friends may call Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD. Funeral service, conduct by Rev. Bert Jicha, will be held at 11:00 am.
Interment will follow the service in Charlestown Cemetery, Charlestown, MD.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made payable to “The Wound Care Center at Union Hospital”, in care of the funeral home.
