Shirley Holbrook, 77 of Elk Mills, MD, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2016 in the Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE.

Born in Gap Mills, WV on April 28, 1939, she was the daughter of the late George and Lora rene (Kirk) Dunsmore. She was the beloved wife of 59 years to Ira C. Holbrook, Sr. who passed on October 27, 2016.

In her early years, Shirley attended Baptist Bible Church on Appleton Road, then after moving to Elk Mills, she attended Baldwin United Methodist Church and was a part of the Missions team.

She was a member of the Moose Lodge since 1998 and had a 10 year Perfect Attendance and a Moose Breakfast Award. In her younger years, she maintained 2 gardens where Shirley grew vegetables and canned up food for the winter. She loved raising flowers and cacti, watching NASCAR and All Star Wrestling, listening to Country Music and Bluegrass, playing cards and Bingo. Her favorite color was red.

Survived by her children: Bonnie Sue Nagle of Rising Sun, MD, Patricia M. Bernal (Luis) of Elkton, MD, Sue Watson (Stan) of Rising Sun, MD, Ira C. Holbrook, Jr. (Cyndi) of North East, MD and Blenda J. Holbrook of Elkton, MD; brothers: Charles Reynolds of Gore, VA, Henry Reynolds of Cross Junction, VA and Hugh Reynolds of Charlestown, WV;  her 11 grandchildren: Dallas Nagle, Timothy Watson, Christopher Bernal, Rachael Bowles, Tara Bernal, Jesse Holbrook, Amy Holbrook, Samantha Holbrook, Steven Holbrook, Michael Holbrook, and Travis Bernal; 10 great grandchildren: Caiden Bernal, Taylor Bowles, Riley Watson, MaKayla Nagle, Gavin Bowles, Avery Watson, Alexis Nagle, Jace Bowles, Liam Bernal, Laci Bernal; and numerous nephews, nieces and friends.

Shirley had many special friends through the years and recently had experienced losing many of those phone buddies to death. Just to mention a few: Wanda Ulmer, Joyce Robinson, Pansy Waddell; siblings preceded in death: Dorothy, Elsie, Bessie, Gladys, Roy, Beatrice and Lewis.

To the wonderful special friends who remain, just know that our beloved mother loved you dearly. To mention a few without offending anyone: Susan Hazelwood, Sandy Moore, Carl & Janie Thomas, Paul Mullins. Thank you to all her friends who made her feel special and loved.

Funeral service, conducted by Rev. Charles Rossiter, will be held Monday, November 28, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Crouch Funeral Home P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD. Family and friends may visit 12:00-1:00 pm.

In addition to flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Baldwin Fire Recovery in care of the funeral home.

Interment will follow in Rose Bank Cemetery, Rising Sun, MD.
