Kenneth Edward Hampson, 66 of Elkton, MD, died suddenly Monday, November 29, 2010 in the Christiana Hospital, Newark, DE. Born in London, England, on December 12, 1943, he was the son of the late Frederick Edward and the late Ivy Humphreys Hampson. Mr. Hampson attended grammar school and drama school in London, England. He served in the British Royal Navy. Mr. Hampson danced professionally for several years in London's theatre district and then acted in both professional and amateur theatre productions with the South London Theatre Centre and the Fullingham Players. He also owned his own business, Leather Restorers, in Knightsbridge, London. Before immigrating to America with his family, he was an interior designer with Cooper's Design Centers in London and Essex, England. In America, he continued to work in furniture design and sales. He spent several years working for Miller's Furniture and then LaZyBoy Furniture Galleries where he also headed the area training program. Mr. Hampson worked part-time for Good's Furniture in Newark, Delaware. He was a member of the New Castle Moose Lodge, FOP, and Leeds United Methodist Church. Mr. Hampson's various interests included cooking, carpentry, theatre, and film. Survivors include his son: Gareth Webb Hampson of Watertown, NY; sisters: Iris Lines and her husband George of Rochford, England, Edna Hampson of Kingswood, England; dear friend and former wife: Tracy Webb, and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Christ Center Gospel Mission, 4365 Telegraph Road, Elkton, MD. The Rev. James P. Walz will officiate. The family requests casual dress for attendees. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Christ Center Gospel Mission in care of the funeral home. Interment will be private.
