Sylvia H. (Lewis) Smith, 98 of North East, MD, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017.

Born in Lebanon, PA, on October 25, 1918, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Hess) Lewis.  She was the wife of the late Melvin A. “Dutch” Smith who died Nov. 22, 1996.

Mrs. Smith worked side by side with her husband on their family farm.  She was a member of the Eastern Star, having served as a past Matron, a member of Shelemiah UM Church in Bayview and the Women’s Club of Cecil County.

She is survived by one daughter: Janet Loveless and husband Leroy of Marlow, OK and one son: Carl Alexander Smith and wife Rosie of Odenton, MD; two sisters: Elsie Isaac and Rosemary Comer; three brothers: Frank, Earl and Robert Lewis; three grandchildren: Shawn Smith, Amy Austin and husband Don, Lynn Price and husband Brandy; and two great grandchildren: Austin Price and Gabriel Price.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a grandson: Kyle Loveless; and her siblings: George Lewis Jr., Georgianna, Herb Lewis, Marguerita Hayes, Paul Lewis, Barbara Lewis and David Lewis.

Visitation will be held on Monday, March 27, 2017 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD, with funeral services on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 11:00 am.

Interment will follow in Bay View Cemetery, North East, MD.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations to Shelemiah UM Church, Season Hospice & Palliative Care or the Salvation Army, all in care of the funeral home.
