Robert Hickman Fields, Jr. “Bob” “Johnnie”

 

Robert H. Fields, 78 of North East, MD and Summerfield, FL, died Friday, May 6, 2016 in Union Hospital, Elkton, MD after a courageous 26 year battle with heart disease.  Bob was born February 7, 1938 in Tazewell, VA to the parents of Ethel Phoebe Church and Johnnie Fields.

 

Bob proudly served for six years in the United States Air Force.  Before retiring, Bob was employed at General Cable, Perelli Cable, Thiokol, Daily Express Trucking and was an independent trucker for over 25 years.  Bob enjoyed playing cards and horse racing at Delaware Park, as well as spending time at his Florida residence.  He was an avid sports fan who followed his beloved Orioles and Ravens faithfully.  Central to his life, were his children and grandchildren for whom Bob showed an extreme love and cared for deeply.

 

Bob is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 60 years: Betty L. Fields; his children: Debra Dacey (James), North East, MD, Jeffrey Fields (Deborah), Charlestown, MD, Michael Fields (Robin), Elkton, MD and Cathy Haley (Patrick), Rising Sun, MD; grandchildren: James Dacey, Kristin Dacey, Daniel Smith, Ashley Fields, Jamie Fields, Keith Smith and Michael Fields; and great grandchildren: Tori, Jaren, Cole, Kyleigh and Lilly.  Also surviving are his sisters: Shirley Ewing and Barbara Daniels; and his brother: Eugene Stewart, as well as multiple nieces and nephews and his Aunt Helen, whom he cherished.

 

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his grandson: Kyle Dacey; his brother: Charles Stewart; and his stepfather: Charles H. Stewart, Sr.

 

Services will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 10:00 am at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD.  Family and friends may call on Tuesday evening, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

 

Burial will follow the services in Rose Bank Cemetery, Calvert, MD.

 

Flowers may be sent to the funeral home.
