Kathryn Ann Heidel, “Kathy” 68 of North East, MD, died Thursday, August 13, 2015 at home surrounded by her loving family.  Kathy died from ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

She was born on May 8, 1947 to Melvin and Kathryn Huber in Baltimore.  Her life really began when she met her husband and true love, Ray, in College.  They were married 48 years and have two wonderful daughters: Amy Miller (husband Dave) and Rachel Bennett (husband Jamie).  Kathy was also blessed by five dear grandchildren:  Alex and Hunter Miller, Tage, Ari and Rosalie Bennett.  She has two brothers: Chuck Huber (wife Beth and children Ben and Kelsey) and Rick Huber; and two brothers in law: Lou Heidel and Jim Lang.

Kathy spent many hours doing volunteer work for her church, St. Mary Anne’s, for Union Hospital, at North East Elementary School as a mentor and as president and secretary for the North East Women’s Civic League.

Her happiest moments were spent with her loving family and close friends, especially George and Mariana Wilke and the book club gals, Broads with Books.

Like Lou Gehrig, Kathy considered herself the luckiest person in the world.  This disease did not rob her of the great love, good friends and good fortune she enjoyed.

A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Crouch Funeral Home, P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 12:00 pm at St. Mary Anne's Episcopal Church, 315 South Main Street, North East, MD.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
