Harold (Hal) Arthur Flood, 82, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 10, 2017.  A devoted husband to the late Elizabeth Jayne (Theetge) Flood for 51 years until her passing in 2005 and son of Frank Scott Flood and Alice Elizabeth (Hawley) Flood, Hal was born in Sayre, PA January 25, 1934.

Hal was baptized, confirmed and married at the Church of the Redeemer in Sayre, PA, where he and Elizabeth were members for many years before moving away.

Hal served proudly in the United States Army, Pfc(T) on active duty from 1953-1955 where he received a National Defense Service Medal as well as a medal for good conduct. He then served on the Army reserves until 1961, where he was honorably discharged from standby reserves.

After his years in the military, Hal went on to a distinguished career that started with RCA in Camden, NJ, where he performed electronic designs for radios, TVs, and the Apollo space missions.  He spent the next twenty-five years with the DuPont Company where he served as their manager of Human Resources until his retirement in 1994.   He spent the final years of his working career as the Global Director of Human Resources for SouthCo and then had his second and final retirement in 1999.

Hal and Elizabeth spent many joyful years together in NJ (from Collingswood to Stratford) and Newark, DE, eventually moving to their log home near North East, MD in 1988.  Liz and Hal relished in the joy of their three children, Victoria Elizabeth Gilley (spouse, Bob Gilley) of Chesapeake City, MD; Rebecca Jayne Flood (spouse, the Late Rev. Dr. Maurice Wilson) of Costa Mesa, CA and Andrew T. Flood (spouse, Janice Flood) of North East, MD.   They shared ten wonderful grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren who will all miss their Poppy.

Hal had a big heart and shared openly with his family as well as those with whom he worked.   He was a devoted member of Holy Trinity (Collingwood, NJ), St. James Episcopal Church (Millcreek, DE) where he served as the lay minister to the children’s service for over two decades and throughout his time at St. James he served on the vestry, including Senior Warden and chaired construction and renovations to both the parish hall and church.  He and Elizabeth more recently attended St. Mary Anne’s Episcopal Church (North East, MD) where he again served on the vestry and as Senior Warden.  He also helped train the Acolytes at all three churches.

In addition, Hal was very active in his community and for decades was a member of the Chorus on the Brandywine, including President.  He enjoyed greatly singing and the work of the barbershop especially the outreach they did in the community.  He was also a proud member of F&AM, Collingswood Cloud Lodge #101, Collingswood, NJ since 1959.   Throughout Hal’s life he was an avid wood worker designing and making beautiful furniture for his home, his churches, children’s homes, and for many friends and family members.

Hal spent his final years with his partner of 11 years, Sally Musto, in a small town in Pennsylvania, West Pittston, where he enjoyed numerous hobbies and friends including woodworking and golf with his buddies.
