Edith Rose Walbeck, 84, of North East passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2015. Born in Elk Neck, MD on November 11, 1930, she was the daughter of Joseph and Esther Clark Lynch.
Mrs. Walbeck attended the one room Hart’s School, North East High School and Salisbury State Teacher’s College. She was a star athlete in high school and college. She was employed by The DuPont Company and the VA as a medical technician before raising her family. For thirty years she was also a volunteer in the White House Greetings office, traveling to D.C. twice a month. She served under five Presidents. She was an active member of St. Mary Anne’s Episcopal Church and the Women’s Civic League of North East. She enjoyed camping and baking for others. She also loved Maryland basketball and was an avid Ravens fan. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
In 1954 she married her high school sweetheart, Carl Walbeck. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage, living several places in Virginia before moving back to North East, and they traveled extensively. In addition to her husband she is survived by three children: Barbara Lee England (Bruce) of Elkton, David Walbeck (Cathy) of Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, and Patricia Murphy of North East; eight grandchildren: Barton England (Becky), Lance and Randy England, Calvin and Conrad Walbeck and Graham, Madison and Kelly Murphy; two great grandchildren: Carly and Chloe England; two sisters Isabelle Lynch of Calvert, MD and Elinor Schrack of Lower Gwynedd, PA; and one niece: Sharon Beales.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 3, 2015 at 11 A.M. at St. Mary Anne’s Episcopal Church, 315 South Main Street, North East, MD with a visitation on Friday, October 2, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 8p.m. at Crouch Funeral Home P.A., 127 South Main Street, North East, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary Anne’s Episcopal Church.
