Alverna E. “Tootsie” Olson, 89, of Elkton, MD, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, July 7, 2017, surrounded by her family.

Born in Gloucester City, NJ, on May 26, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William Mahlon and Alverna Ethel (Schade) Demarest.

Alverna was a member of the First Baptist Church of North East, MD. She was a lifelong Sunday school teacher and volunteered consistently with various organizations and ministries throughout the area. She would say she was best known as "mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend." She was known for her kindness and compassion towards others.

She is survived by four daughters: Carol L. Logan and Nancy L. Blevins (Dennis) of Elkton, MD, Cheryl A. Leatherwood (David) of Port Deposit, MD, and Noel J. Olson of Newark, DE, and son: Eric W. Olson (Kathye) of Elkton, MD. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Olson is preceded in death by her husband, William E. Olson, who died Jun 18, 1989, and 7 brothers.

Memorial service will be held 12:00 noon, Friday, July 14, 2017, at Grace Bible Chapel, 1949 Biggs Highway, Rising Sun, MD. There will be a visitation beginning at 11:00 AM.

Private interment will be in Elkton Cemetery, Elkton, MD.
