Alan Michael “Bear” Robbins, age 65 of North East, MD departed this life on Aug. 31, 2017 following a sudden illness.

A devoted family man, Alan is survived by his wife of 43 years, two sons, a daughter and son-in-law, and six grandchildren.

Alan was a true patriot, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfathers.  He served in the United States Navy from 1972-1984.  LT. Robbins was particularly proud of his service aboard the USS Jesse L. Brown, FF 1089 from 1977-1979.  Other commands include NAV FAC, Adak, Alaska, NAV CAMS MED, Naples, Italy and more.

Following his naval career, Alan continued to serve our country as a Department of Defense employee, during which time he distinguished himself by earning, among others, the Knowlton Award, the Knight of the Honorable Order of St. Michael, and the Crystal Eagle Award for 40 years of government civilian service.

A gifted athlete, Alan was involved in sports his entire life.  During the last 40 years he became devoted to coaching high school football.  Coach “Bear” was very proud of the achievements of the young men and looked up to by them.  A gifted strategist, he employed that power best as a Defensive Coordinator.  Among the teams he helped coach were the Clayton Clippers, Rota Admirals, CM Wright Mustangs and the Perryville Panthers.

Though Alan gave a great deal of his time to sports, his children and grandchildren never wanted for his time and attention.  They will remember their Dad and “Papa Bear” for his good cheer and playfulness, a plethora of family photos, annual photo Christmas cards spanning 42 years, and countless photographic Christmas tree ornaments.

Alan’s wishes are to be cremated followed by Burial at Sea.

A Mass and Life Celebration will be held at St. Jude’s RC Church, 928 Turkey Point Road, North East, MD on Sat. Sept. 9, 2017 at 10:00 am with visitation beginning at 9:00 am.

Condolences can be sent to Crouch Funeral Home, 127 South Main Street, North East, MD 21901 or by visiting www.crouchfuneralhome.com.

Who can count how many lives Alan has touched for good?
